Fun For The Young

Fun For The Young

Looking for an activity to keep your little one entertained on weekends, while at the same time building their physical, social and emotional development? That’s exactly what you’ll get with the Sports Hub Multi-Sports Classes! Aimed at preschool children, the programme exposes them to six different sports — soccer, rugby, floorball, basketball, T-ball and tennis. Along the way, they get to develop gross motor skills (or fundamental movement skills) and also learn core values such as confidence, self-esteem, teamwork, sharing and respect.

Each sport consists of four weekly sessions, where children acquire and hone their skills through a mix of drills and games. Fun and innovative group activities are specially planned for the children, with age-appropriate sports equipment provided to ensure a safe and enjoyable learning environment. Held at the 100PLUS Promenade, Gate 6, there are two back-to-back sessions every Sunday — one for 2–3 year olds from 11am to 12pm (with parental involvement), and another for 4–6 year olds from 12pm to 1pm.

The classes are conducted by experienced coaches from Vivo Kids by Vivo Kinetics, which has partnered with Singapore Sports Hub to deliver the programme. According to Head Coach Ms Vivian Eng, a big draw of the Multi-Sports Classes is its play-based curriculum. “We weave creative stories into the classes to keep children engaged, and they let their imagination run free while testing a wide variety of motor skills,” says Ms Eng. “Because we rotate between different sports, the kids are also less likely to get bored or develop overuse injuries later on.

There Are Three Categories Of Fundamental Movement Skills:

  1. Locomotor skills — e.g. walking, running, leaping, jumping

  2. Object control skills — e.g. throwing, catching, kicking, dribbling

  3. Stability skills — maintaining balance, both when the body is stationary (static) and moving (dynamic)

These skills allow us to carry out daily living activities. They also serve as the building blocks for more complex, specialised skills required to participate in many games, sports and physical recreation.

The Sports Hub Multi-Sports Classes offers a free trial session for first-timers. To find out more about the programme, including rates, packages and how to register, visit here.
