Home to a truly unique collection of rare artefacts and memorabilia, the Museum is perfect for sports enthusiasts, little ones keen on learning, or anyone who’s interested to take a dip into the world of Singapore's sporting history. 

 

Temporary Galleries | Beginning Of A Golden Age Of Sport In Singapore (Late 1940s - 1950s)

This exhibition is held in celebration of the Golden Anniversary of Sport Singapore (1973 - 2023) and in conjunction with Singapore HeritageFest 2023. Immerse yourself in the remarkable stories of our leading Sportsmen and Sportswomen in post-war Singapore, and marvel at the artefacts that accompanied our athletes in their sporting quest which heralded a golden era of Sport in Singapore.

Our Badminton Greats

Did you know that the Thomas Cup was held in Singapore in the 1950s? This exhibition begins with an introduction of our badminton greats, including Wong Peng Soon, nicknamed “The Great Wong”, and his fellow compatriots who achieved success in the Thomas Cup from 1949 to 1955.

In the early 1950s, weightlifting was a dominant sport in Singapore. Reminisce about the mighty show of strength from our early weightlifters which culminated in Tan Howe Liang’s historic silver medal at the 1960 Olympics

Parallel to the sporting successes of our badminton team in the 1950s was the Singapore Malaya Cup football team. On display is the footcast of Mr Chia Boon Leong, Singapore’s only footballer to have taken to the field at the Olympics.
