SINGAPORE, 31 January 2026 – An exhilarating day of rugby and fan-fare took place at The National Stadium at The Kallang as the HSBC SVNS Singapore 2026 got underway. Dubbed the Family SVNS, fans were treated to rugby spectacle as New Zealand decimated Great Britain in the Women’s Pool B with a 64-0 score before proceeding to win their matches against Canada and France, topping their pool with 138 points. In a nail-biting finish, Fiji men’s narrowly clinched victory against South Africa with a final score of 24-19, after a golden point extra tied at 19-19.

Aside from the new global rugby sevens season format making its debut in Singapore, the SEA 7s also took place with Thailand emerging as Women’s champions with a commanding 39-0 victory over Malaysia, and Malaysia vindicating themselves through the Men’s final to secure a stunning victory over Thailand. Aspiring players of the future were also given opportunities to challenge their skills with Ruck and Rumble Matches while fans delighted in top-notch entertainment, games and fringe activities.

A Festival of Fun at Family SVNS

From Pizzas to Bananas (we mean costumes here) fans, from all over the world, were cheering, singing and dancing as one community, bringing the stands to life and adding to the atmosphere for players. Flags, posters and wacky dress ups covered the stands as they enjoyed games, fringe activities and entertainment while the HSBC SVNS Singapore 2026 ambassadors, Ruby Tui, Nathan Hirayama and Jerry Tuwai surprised and delighted screaming fans. Kids had the chance to meet their favourite characters from LITTLE PONY, Peppa & George Pig, as well as the leader of the Autobots - Optimus Prime, while teens could go on Mandai’s Ranger Buddies missions, try a game of tag rugby or plug in at the PS5 gaming stations. No fan could go hungry with delicious bites from Meatsmith and Burnt Ends Bakery while cooling off with refreshing drinks at the Beach Club.

To inspire and nurture the next generation of players, this past week, The Kallang Group curated a full suite of activities for all ages across fan zones and at schools to provide access to the sport at every level. These included learning journeys for 11 schools and members of community sports network groups as well as sports clinics for local and international schools, local clubs and SportCares beneficiaries. The Kallang Group also hosted coaching sessions, where participants were trained by the best in the field, including officials from World Rugby, allowing them to gain knowledge and skills for various aspects of the sport. The excitement continues from 2 February 2026 with thirteen matches of the rugby National School Games taking place at the National Stadium at The Kallang where seven schools will battle it out, while the Singapore Rugby Union National League U15s kicks off from 7 February 2026.

The HSBC SVNS Singapore 2026 tournament continues at 12.00pm local time (GMT+8) tomorrow, Sunday, 1 February 2026, with Fiji v Great Britain. The gold-medal match for Women’s rugby will begin at 7.05pm local time (GMT+8), followed by men’s rugby at 7.41pm local time (GMT+8). The Singapore Rugby Union Schools U14 Sevens will also give young local ruggers the chance to compete with exciting clashes on a world-class pitch. Limited tickets are available here.
