Men’s competition: New Zealand shine, Czechia and Brazil complete the lineup
New Zealand confirmed their place at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2026 after a thrilling 19-17 overtime win over Brazil, with Te Tuhi Lewis and Chris Martin displaying stellar tournament form. The dynamic Tall Blacks was instrumental throughout the tournament, providing scoring bursts and leadership as New Zealand navigated high-pressure moments. In the decisive game, they showed composure late before sealing the win with a clutch two-pointer in overtime. Martin said: “Brazil is a great team. They pushed us to the very end. It was a close game, we were trading buckets back and forth for the entire game. It came down to the wire, and they hit a bank shot to send it to overtime, and I guess luck was on our side and we got the win in the end. I love my teammates, I love them so much. The FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup and this FIBA 3x3 World Cup Qualifier was an experience and I'm blessed to be here.”
Czechia also punched their ticket with an impressive 20-16 comeback victory over Italy. After trailing midway, they produced a strong finishing run, with Filip Novotny leading the charge with 11 points to power them to qualification. Michal Svojanovský commented: “It was a very physical game but we prepared for that, and it was key that we stuck to our game plan. We followed the rules and we made free throws, finally, and a few two-point shots. This is our first World Cup in the men ‘s competition, and I feel amazing. I'm super proud of us, super proud of the whole team.”
Brazil secured the final men’s spot with a dominant 21-13 win over Italy in the last-chance game. After a tightly contested start, Brazil found their rhythm offensively and pulled away to clinch their place in Warsaw. William Weihermann was pleased with qualifying for the FIBA 3x3 World Cup: “We are very happy with the squad. We trained for three months for this moment. We slipped a little in the first game against New Zealand, we didn't fit our game. So the next game, we focused 101% to get here with the spot because I believe this is where Brazil belongs. We belong to the World Cup.”
Women’s competition: Hungary dominate, Lithuania and Philippines follow
Hungary was the standout team of the tournament, completing a perfect run with a commanding 21-13 victory over hosts Singapore to secure qualification.
At the heart of their success was Vivi Böröndy, who delivered another dominant performance with 13 points in the qualification game. Across the tournament, she consistently stepped up in key moments, combining scoring efficiency with physical presence to lead Hungary from start to finish. Böröndy said: “Singapore is a really great and energetic team. It was so hard to play against them and in front of this crowd. The Singapore fans are really great, and it was such a pleasure to play in front of this crowd. We are so happy to get the ticket to the World Cup, and we are so happy that we can participate here in Singapore. Now that we are through to the World Cup, we want to get the best result we can.”
Lithuania joined them at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup after a composed 21-16 win over the Philippines. Kamile Nacickaite-Van der Horst led the way with 11 points, controlling the tempo and hitting crucial shots to keep Lithuania in front. She said: “This is the first time we are here. It's a different experience and it’s the first time for us; the climate is so different and it’s a long trip. I'm very proud of the whole team. Everyone did what they were supposed to and we qualified. It feels amazing because we got the job done.”
The Philippines claimed the final women’s ticket in emphatic fashion, defeating Singapore 21-10 in the decisive game. Kacey De la Rosa starred once again with 11 points, capping off a strong tournament as the Philippines secured their place in Warsaw. Afril Bernadino was pleased with the result: “We only had one practice after the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup, and we were trying to regain our chemistry in the first game, and then the second, and finally the third one. And this last game tonight, we got our goal. We’ve played many different players here; they’re tougher and they have speed. We’ve learnt to be more aggressive, to have more communication and to not give up until the end of the game.”
