Media Statement
Singapore, 25 May 2017 – The Board of SportsHub Pte Ltd (“SHPL”) today announces that Manu Sawhney has resigned as Chief Executive Officer and will be leaving SHPL, effective immediately.
Bryn Jones, Chairman of the SHPL Board said, “On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Manu for his service and contributions during his tenure and wish him the best in his future endeavors”.
The Board of SHPL has undertaken an internal investigation into an anonymous complaint against Mr Sawhney and has decided that no action is warranted. The Board has closed the investigation.
However, Mr Sawhney has decided that the time has come for a new CEO to take the Singapore Sports Hub to its next level. The Board has accepted his resignation.
Since he assumed the role of CEO in October 2015, Mr Sawhney had tackled protracted problems involving the stadium’s pitch, acoustics and most importantly, injected vibrancy with calendar-packed events while stepping up engagement with the community through the Sports Hub Community Play Day.
Some of the more notable events staged and to be staged at the National Stadium include the World Rugby Seven Series, NDP 2016, Super Rugby, Monster Jam, the 2017 International Champions Cup Singapore featuring football legends such as Chelsea FC and FC Bayern, and concerts by Coldplay, Foo Fighters and other popular bands and singers yet to be announced.
Oon Jin Teik, Chief Operating Officer of SHPL, will be taking over as acting CEO. Jin Teik has the full support of the Board and is well-positioned to assume leadership responsibilities having been an integral part of the Singapore Sports Hub since its early stages. The Board will consider the long-term position of the CEO and COO appointments, and will provide relevant updates in due course.
