SPORTS HUB LEADS NEW CLIMBING EXPERIENCE WITH STEPPER

Singapore, 3 October 2015 – The Singapore Sports Hub Stepper 2015 took flight today at the National Stadium. Singapore Women’s Everest Team and Mr Philippe Collin-Delavaud, Advisor to Chief Executive Officer and Board, Singapore Sports Hub, flagged off the “Community Fun Stepper” event at 8am, the only event to proceed since the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) levels at 8am was more than 150 (Refer to Appendix A for “Community Fun Stepper” route map).

More than 500 participants ranging from children to the elderly took part in event under the canopy of the world’s largest free-spanning dome.

“The Singapore Sports Hub Stepper is another gateway for members of the community to enjoy a world-class facility at the Singapore Sports Hub. It is a novel event for the elite to the novice to experience a whole new level of climbing. It is unfortunate that three of the categories will be postponed to 31 October due to the deterioration of the air quality in the morning, but we are glad that members of the public were still able to have fun at the ‘Community Fun Stepper’ event. The Sports Hub will continue to innovate and continue to drive community events for Singaporeans to experience,” said Mr Oon Jin Teik, Chief Operating Officer, Singapore Sports Hub.

As the three-hour PSI was 158 at 4am, three categories – “Kids Climb”, “Competitive Speed Stepper” and “Competitive Enduro Stepper” were postponed to 31 October 2015, and the sports carnival had to be cancelled in accordance to the Singapore Sports Hub Stepper Haze Contingency Plan.

The Singapore Women’s Everest Team stepped up as ambassadors for the inaugural event as they flagged off the first wave of the Women’s Competitive Enduro Stepper and participated in the “Community Fun Stepper” event as well.
