Oon Jin Teik, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Sports Hub
Singapore, 23 January 2018 – The Board of Directors of SportsHub Pte Ltd (“Singapore Sports Hub”) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Oon Jin Teik as Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of the Singapore Sports Hub, with immediate effect. Jin Teik has been Acting CEO of the Singapore Sports Hub since May last year, on top of his responsibilities as Chief Operating Officer (“COO”).
Mr. Oon joined the Singapore Sports Hub as its COO in May 2014, where he was responsible for leading the operational development of the Singapore Sports Hub, and has successfully seen the Singapore Sports Hub through numerous major events including the 2015 Southeast Asian Games, 2015 ASEAN Para Games, and the National Day Parade 2016.
He was also part of the team that conceptualised the Singapore Sports Hub project, as well as managed the subsequent awarding of the contract to the Sports Hub consortium, when he was CEO of the Singapore Sports Council (now Sport Singapore).
A former national swimmer who represented Singapore at the 1984 Summer Olympics, Jin Teik remains close to the Singapore swimming community through his appointment as Secretary General of the Singapore Swimming Association.
Bryn Jones, Chairman of the Singapore Sports Hub, commented: “The Board is delighted to appoint Jin Teik as CEO, and is confident that he has the qualifications and abilities to lead the Singapore Sports Hub forward. The Board is particularly impressed by Jin Teik’s performance when he was Acting CEO, where he proved to be a strong, decisive and capable leader. As a Board, we recognise Jin Teik’s passion for the project of which he has been an integral part since its inception. We look forward to witness the Singapore Sports Hub thrive under his leadership.”
Lim Teck Yin, CEO of Sport Singapore, commented: “SportSG extends our congratulations to Jin Teik on his appointment as CEO of the Singapore Sports Hub. The Singapore Sports Hub has an important role to play in Vision 2030 to enable Singaporeans to Live Better through Sport, whether they are enjoying high quality events as a competitor, participant or spectator. The Singapore Sports Hub is an iconic sports, entertainment and lifestyle destination that must bring to bear new capabilities and be a source of inspiration and pride for the sport ecosystem and more. We look forward to deepening our partnership towards these ends with Jin Teik as CEO.”
Mr. Oon shared: “I am deeply honoured and would like to thank the Board for this opportunity of a lifetime to serve as CEO of the Singapore Sports Hub. Our nation’s largest public-private partnership of its kind has come a long way in establishing itself as the region’s premier sports, entertainment and lifestyle destination. This is due in no small part to the passion and hard work of the Sports Hub Team and our partners, whose commitment towards building an icon of great national pride to Singapore inspires me daily. Ensuring that the Singapore Sports Hub remains fit for its purpose in an ever-changing playing field is key in our forward journey. Together, we will spare no effort to stay ahead of our game and score many more wins for Singapore.”
