SINGAPORE SPORTS HUB KICKS OFF FIRST-EVER FESTIVAL OF FOOTBALL

  • Biggest football celebration sets the scene for International Champions Cup

  • Largest screening of 55 live football matches with prizes to be won

  • Six key partners unite to deliver unprecedented event programming

Singapore,   14   June   2018   –   The   Singapore   Sports   Hub   –   Home    of   Singapore    Football   – today kicked-off its inaugural Festival of Football, held from now till 30 July. The biggest celebration of the global game in Singapore, the Festival will see 55 football games screened live on a mega 66sqm LED screen, prize giveaways at every match, football merchandise and premiums, and a gamut of fun offerings for the whole family. This mega event boasting a multi-partnership drive is a strong testament of the collaboration between Singapore Sports Hub and its strategic event partners Sport Singapore, Singapore Tourism Board, National Youth Council, International Champions Cup, Football Association of Singapore and Starhub.

Biggest Football Celebration Sets the Scene for International Champions Cup
The Singapore Sports Hub Festival of Football heralds in the much anticipated 2018 International Champions Cup (ICC) in Singapore end July, which will see not one but three European powerhouses, Atlético de Madrid, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) play at the National Stadium. Football fans are in for an exclusive treat when the global tournament returns to the National Stadium with an exciting revamped format* in Singapore - their only Asian stop this year. The first match between Atlético and Arsenal kicks off on July 26, Arsenal plays PSG on July 28 while PSG and Atlético close out on July 30.

In conjunction with this year’s ICC, the Singapore Sports Hub is searching for the 2018 Ultimate Football Family. ICC ticket holders will have a chance to fly to either London, Madrid or Paris to watch Arsenal, Atlético de Madrid or PSG play a home match with flights and two nights’ accommodation covered for two. The child of the winning family will also get the opportunity of a lifetime to escort a football star onto the    pitch   at   the   ICC   matches   in   Singapore   this   July    (visit   http://www.sportshub.com.sg/FOF for more details).

Participants need only complete the Ultimate Football Festival Card, post their experience at the Singapore Sports Hub Festival of Football on Facebook and/or Instagram, and purchase a 2018 International Champions Cup in Singapore match ticket to participate in the campaign.

*While previous ICC tournaments recognised a winner for each participating continent, this year’s competition will see one overall global champion.

Celebrating Dads, Families and Friends at the Singapore Sports Hub Festival of Football
In collaboration with the Singapore Sports Hub Festival of Football, Dads for Life 2018 will take place on 16 and 17 June at the Singapore Sports Hub with a World Cup football theme. 200 pairs of father and child will participate in a series of adventure-learning challenges designed to foster dad-child interaction and communication. The main highlights of the camp include the Dads for Life Trail which will see participants undergo fun challenges at various Singapore Sports Hub facilities, followed by watching Live World Cup matches late into the night.

One of the highlights of the festival over Father’s Day weekend is Football Kakis Day on 16 June. It will see teams comprising embassies and Dads for Life representatives go head-to-head in a 4-versus-4 football tournament. The games will be held from 2.30pm onwards till 6pm, just before the match between Australia versus France is screened live onsite.

Members of the public can also take part in mini-competitions, such as daily 4v4 football tournaments, featuring up to 128 teams across five different categories – U21 Boys, U21 Girls, Men’s Open, Women’s Open and Veteran. The winning team in each category will walk away with $1,000 cash prize. There will also be a “King of the Hour” competition on 14 and 15 July, whereby the team that chalks up the most number of wins every hour clinches $100 cash prize.

Meet-and-greet with SPL players and German football legend, Roman Weidenfeller
Former Borussia Dortmund player and German World Cup 2014 winner, Roman Weidenfeller, will make a special appearance at the Singapore Sports Hub on 17 June, Sunday, 10pm. Visitors will be able to catch the action from the Germany versus Mexico match at the OCBC Square with the football Great. There will also be plenty of photo opportunities with Borussia Dortmund Mascot, Emma the Bee.

The Young Lions, together with players from the Home United Football Club, will also be showing up in full force at the Singapore Sports Hub Festival of Football. The players are scheduled to appear at the Sports Hub Library on 23 June, Saturday, to engage fans and inspire the younger generations, as they share their journey to becoming professional football players. Fans can look forward to two Singapore Premier League matches to be held at the National Stadium – the Home of the Lions – on 23 and 24 June.

Mr. Siva Krishnan, Director for Events Programming at the Singapore Sports Hub, said, “Nothing beats watching the World Cup live surrounded by friends and family. And there is no better place than the Singapore Sports Hub to gather and watch the games, because of our exciting range of experiential activities that will be sure to entertain and delight.”
