“We are delighted to announce the Singapore Sports Hub SG50 Carnival which is presented by OCBC Bank as we celebrate Singapore’s Golden Jubilee. Singapore has come a long way through 50 years of nation-building and we are proud to be a part of the country’s structural fabric to help unify Singaporeans as we celebrate the nation’s achievements today. Let us now look forward to the next 50 years of future success.

This carnival is a reminder that Sports Hub is committed to serving Singaporeans and growing with Singapore, as it strives to deliver on the Government’s ‘Vision 2030’ master plan for sports to be inclusive, affordable and accessible for the community. It also reinforces the Hub as a place for the elite to the novice – where all Singaporeans can experience sports and entertainment, in a community that celebrates diversity and inclusion,” said Mr Oon Jin Teik, Chief Operating Officer, Singapore Sports Hub.

Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Minister of State for National Development and Defence and Mayor, South East District, will officially open and kick-start the Carnival on 8 August 2015. A turnout of more than 20,000 visitors over the weekend is expected.

The Singapore Sports Hub will also be holding a free screening of the movie Ah Boys to Men 3: Frogmen at the OCBC Square on Saturday as part of the programme for the two days of activities.

“We are excited to partner Singapore Sports Hub once again, this time for an event that celebrates Singapore’s 50th birthday over the Jubilee Weekend. Being Singapore’s longest established bank, OCBC has not only seen, but also weathered the tribulations and challenges in the early years with the nation. Together, our journey is an extraordinary and rewarding one. We are therefore thrilled to present an SG50 carnival at the Sports Hub to commemorate the occasion. Through the OCBC WaterFest in July and the SG50 Carnival by OCBC next weekend, as well as OCBC Cycle 2015 in late August, we hope to foster a deeper sense of community and unity among Singaporeans and residents, especially in this monumental jubilee year. We look forward to giving back to the community in whatever way we can in the next 50 years and beyond,” said Ms Koh Ching Ching, Head of Group Corporate Communications, OCBC Bank.

In part with giving back to the community, the Singapore Sports Hub will be carrying out its first Going for Gold activation where, along with Youth Corps volunteers, will be bringing more than 180 beneficiaries from four voluntary welfare organisations to attend the celebrations and join in on the fun-filled activities at the SG50 Carnival.

The Carnival will draw to a celebratory end on Sunday with a live telecast of the National Day Parade at the OCBC Square. This will provide the public with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the jubilant celebration of the nation’s 50th birthday, in the company of fellow Singaporeans.

“The Singapore Sports Hub is proud to be a part of the celebrations for Singapore’s 50th birthday. The SG50 Carnival’s exciting and comprehensive line-up of events for the weekend, culminating in the live telecast of the National Day Parade will ensure that there is something for everyone to enjoy and provide a weekend of entertainment and festivity,” said Mr Oon Jin Teik, Chief Operating Officer, Singapore Sports Hub.

“What better way to celebrate Singapore’s Golden Jubilee than at the Singapore Sports Hub SG50 Carnival! I’m pumped about being able to come down to Sports Hub over this weekend to teach kids my skills behind the decks and celebrate this iconic birthday with the rest of Singapore,” said DJ Andrew Chow, three-time DMC Singapore Champion.

The attraction of the Singapore Sports Hub SG50 Carnival would not be possible without the generous support of the Title Sponsor – OCBC Bank, as well as the Official Partners: Fitbit, EcoRider, Decathlon, Gillette, Swisse and Toy Or Game. Supporting Partners include: National Council of Social Service, National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre, Youth Corps Singapore, National Youth Council, South East Community Development Council, Basketball Association of Singapore, KULTURE, Milo, mm2 Entertainment, New Hope Community Services, PureGold and Waterways Watch Society. SG50 Carnival is also held in partnership with Singapore Press Holdings, the carnival’s Official Media Partner.

To add to the Jubilee Weekend celebrations, the Singapore Sports Hub will also offer free access to the OCBC Aquatic Centre, Water Sports Centre and selected courts at the OCBC Arena on 7 and 10 August 2015 for Singaporeans and permanent residents.
