Sports Hub Community Play Day 4 a Splashing Success
More than 100,000 participants haven taken part in Sports Hub Experience Sports Programme since 2016
SINGAPORE, 11 March 2017 – The Singapore Sports Hub rounded off a successful first season of Sports Hub Community Play Day (CPD) as over 7,500 participants (as at 5pm) took to the Water Sports Centre, Stadium Riverside Walk and OCBC Square Saturday.
Minister for Trade and Industry (Industry) Mr. S. Iswaran, flagged off and presented the medals for the inaugural Sports Hub-Singapore Dragon Boat Association (SDBA) Dragon Boat Century Race, a unique 100m event.
At the water sports centre, visitors spent the afternoon circling the bay on pedal boats, kayaks and canoes taking the opportunity to capture pictures of the hub and its surrounding vicinity from one-of-akind vantage points on the water.
The water-themed activities continued onto OCBC Square as participants tried out water yoyos and dunked friends and family members at the dunking tank, while the little ones bounced about on the inflatables
Over at the OCBC Aquatic Centre, some of the best young swimmers took to the water and competed in the 48th Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships 2016.
As the sun began to set, a crowd gathered round Riverside Walk mesmerized by one of the highlights for the evening portion of the event, Blackminton, a faster, more windstable version of speedminton played at night with glow-in-the-dark equipment.
Simultaneously, Saber Authority, a community group which calls the hub home, provided clinics where individuals could try their hand at saber dueling, while top local band The Bushmen capped the evening with their reggae beats.
Since 2016, the Experience Sports programme at the Sports Hub including Community Play Day have attracted over 100,000 participants.
