Mr Oon Jin Teik, Chief Operating Officer, Singapore Sports Hub, presented the 2015 SCDF CERT Award by Mr Eric Yap, Commissioner, SCDF, at the Singapore Expo

Singapore, 14 November 2015 – The Singapore Sports Hub today received the 2015 Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) Company Emergency Response Team (CERT) Award at the Singapore EXPO, which was presented by Mr Eric Yap, Commissioner of SCDF. The award was handed to the Singapore Sports Hub in recognition of the outstanding performance displayed by a CERT of a company in an emergency.

The Singapore Sports Hub’s CERT, together with SCDF fire safety officers, located and effectively extinguished an electrical fire at level four of the National Stadium on 11 June 2015, while the stadium was being used for a track and field event during the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

Said Mr Oon Jin Teik, Chief Operating Officer, Singapore Sports Hub, who received the award on behalf of the Singapore Sports Hub: “We are honoured to receive this award by a partner we work closely with on events days to ensure the safety and well-being of our patrons. The Sports Hub’s Emergency Response Team is well trained and rehearsed to handle issues ranging in scale and complexity. This award signifies the professionalism of the Sports Hub team to manage a potential disaster in a high pressured environment.”

Prior to the SEA Games, Sports Hub and SCDF, including several other agencies, conducted a multi-agency emergency exercise at the Singapore Sports Hub to prepare, validate and update operational plans and procedures in the event of an emergency.

SCDF CERT Award is an annual award given to companies whose CERT demonstrates competence and responsiveness in mitigating real emergency and effectively avoiding a potential disaster.
