‘TIS THE SEASON OF GIVING AT THE SPORTS HUB COMMUNITY PLAY DAY

Singapore, 27 November 2017 – Celebrate the season of giving at the Sports Hub Community Play Day on 2 December 2017, from 9am to 7pm. Held at the OCBC Square, there will be a line-up of activities from fitness workouts to performances, and even opportunities for the public to do their part for charity. 

Key highlights of the event include a one-of-a-kind 3-generation (3G) massage workout, where the whole family, juniors and seniors alike, can take part in a specially choreographed workout routine using hand-held massage hammer sticks1, G-Motion Fitness Marathon by Giordano featuring three hours of non-stop Salsation, Zumba, and Kardio Kickboxing workouts, as well as the KPopX Fitness Anniversary where everyone can dance to their favourite KPop hits! 

Guest-of-Honour Mr Chew Hock Yong, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Social and Family Development, will kick-off the event and flag off the ActiveSG OAC Family AdvRace, a family-friendly adventure race. 

Various sports and fitness tryouts such as calisthenics, bike spinning, jump rope, and disability sports including boccia, wheelchair basketball and goal ball, will be available throughout the day, in addition to kid-friendly activities such as story-telling, colouring, kids Yoga, face-painting, movie screening, craft activities at the Sports Hub Library, and traditional games at the Singapore Sports Museum. There will also be free health assessments on diabetes and weight management, and health talks on heart and knee topics by medical professionals. Other fun activities at the Sports Hub Community Play Day include carnival and arcade games, festive market, and archery and laser tag. 

Mr Oon Jin Teik, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Sports Hub, said, “At the Singapore Sports Hub, we are a firm believer of giving back to the community. Christmas is the season of giving, and we hope that everyone can share the gift of quality time with their loved ones and bond through fun fitness and sporting activities, as well as support our local charities at the Sports Hub Community Play Day. We warmly welcome all Singaporeans to the Singapore Sports Hub.” 

In conjunction with the Giving Week national movement, there will be onsite donation drives conducted by Focus on the Family and REACH Community Services (RCSS) at the Sports Hub Community Play Day. 

During the Giving Week from 28 November to 5 December 2017, participants taking part in the daily FIT-Sessions at the Singapore Sports Hub can also give as they wish to charities, Focus on the Family and RCSS, as they participate in the fitness workouts including Zumba, Boot Camp, Cardio Blast, SuperFit.Community (Run), and Yoga (Please see Appendix A for FIT-Session schedule). Funds raised for Focus on the Family will be used to conduct family life education to strengthen the institution of family, while RCSS will use the funds to support RCSS programmes and services that benefit low income and needy families, at-risk youths and the lonely and vulnerable seniors. 

The Sports Hub Community Play Day is a quarterly community engagement initiative aimed at bringing the community together and encouraging a more active lifestyle through sports and recreational activities.

ABOUT SPORTS HUB COMMUNITY PLAY DAY 

The Sports Hub Community Play Day is a full day of play, where everyone in the community is invited and encouraged to participate in sports and fitness activities with a view to adopting an active lifestyle. 

Held quarterly, the Sports Hub Community Play Day also encourages patrons to discover the various facilities and participate in the activities available at the Sports Hub, thereby aiding in the pursuit of active lifestyles. Each Sports Hub Community Play Day is held at a different venue within the campus, thereby presenting different aspects of the Sports Hub. 

Typically timed to coincide with national school holidays, the Sports Hub Community Play Day also plays a dual role of promoting family and community bonding through shared sports and sporting lifestyle experiences. Every Sports Hub Community Play Day features free sports try-outs, fitness workouts, fun competitions, kids’ activities and more. Most activities are also organised in collaboration with public and private sector organisations. 

Collectively, the past six editions of CPDs have drawn more than 80,000 attendees and highlights of each, including a preview of the upcoming seventh edition to be held on 2 December, may be found below. 

Sports Hub Community Play Day | Inaugural edition – 11 June 2016 @ OCBC Square (9am to 6pm)
